Gilbert and Sullivan’s H.M.S. Pinafore is a well-beloved musical comedy set on Her Majesty’s Ship, the Pinafore. On the ship, we greet sailors yearning to soar above their common rank, excepting the scarred Dick Deadeye who aims to foil their lofty plans. One sailor in particular, Ralph, has the audacity to love the beautiful Captain’s daughter, Josephine. To make matters worse, she returns his love, much to the chagrin of the Captain who has arranged to marry her off to Sir Joseph Porter, the pompous First Lord of the Admiralty. But Sir Joseph’s adoring cousin, Hebe, won’t easily give him up. While they try to sort out their love affairs, Little Buttercup, the affable yet mysterious bumboat woman, steps in to reveal a secret that turns everything upside down.
